Obesity continues to be a serious problem in modern society and the only way to prevent the problem escalating is to make people aware of the dangers of being overweight.

A few ailments that an obese or overweight person could be putting themselves at risk for are:

1. A stroke

2. Diabetes

3. Heart disease

4. Arthritis

5. Hypertension

6. Cancer

Weight loss is the only way to help keep these at bay and losing weight can also help control these diseases.

There are healthy ways to lose the pounds and many unhealthy ways such as the common methods that seem to gain popularity. What methods? Well, things that promise quick results and cost the moon as well as the stars. This is not the way to go when it comes to losing weight. Often these methods prove useless and waste your well earned savings. They come in forms of drinks, supplements or pills and the results, if any, are temporary.

The good old fashion way is the long way but it is also the best way to lose those pounds. Healthy weight loss guarantees longevity and vitality. Being committed and determined to be a healthier you, sets your goals into an obtainable resolution instead of a whimsical idea.

Here are a couple of useful things to know when starting your journey of self discovery:

1. Never starve yourself. Crash diets are a waste of time and the only way to be healthy is to eat healthy. Yes, it is an awesome feeling when that fly by night diet has worked and you can finally fit into that sexy black number or that old pair of jeans... but what happens when you start eating normal again? Your body will punish you for that deprivation and store ALL of the fat you now consume causing you to gain even more weight than before your 'diet'.

2. Begin each day correctly. How? By eating breakfast which is the most important meal of the day. The correct start to the day is to boost your metabolism by supplying sustenance for your body to sustain energy through out the day.

3. Eat small, eat more. Eating five to six healthy potions of food a day is better than three full meals a day. Adopting this way of eating can speed up your metabolism which in turn burns fat that much faster. This can also prevent bingeing and over eating.

4. Set goals. Keep your goals realistic, keep up your momentum and make the changes a part of your every day life.

5. Water. Drink plenty of it to keep hydrated.

6. Less sugar. Keep sweet indulgences to a minimum and load up on fruit as well as vegetables.

7. Work up a sweat. Exercise... if you do not go to gym or do regular work outs then exercise by any means necessary such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator.

By following these simple guidance and getting plenty of sleep then you are on your way to obtaining healthy weight loss. It is a tough road and often results are slow to show but once those pounds fall away, they stay away.
